We've received a lot of requests for being able to stream Jamcast over the internet, so we teamed up with bubbleguuum and his UPnP plugin for foobar2000 to create a really slick user experience that works great on the LAN as well as over the internet. Browse your media, view album art, create playlists, and play a wide variety of supported audio formats from anywhere. Audiophiles will be excited to know that Jamcast can transcode to FLAC (when necessary) to foobar2000, facilitating a lossless conversion option that performs great over the internet if you have the bandwidth. And of course, the Virtual Soundcard can be streamed over the internet as well.

If your PC is connected to the internet via a router, you'll have to configure port forwarding so that internet traffic finds its way to Jamcast, but in version 1.1 we've made this a bit easier by consolidating all Jamcast network services to a single port. In a future release of Jamcast, we hope to make this configuration even easier by configuring NAT on UPnP-compatible routers automatically.

Jamcast's Virtual Soundcard enables you to stream any audio from your PC directly to UPnP and DLNA compatible devices like gaming consoles, HDTV's, and digital media receivers. But what about to the iPhone, iPod Touch, or Apple's upcoming iPad tablet device? No problem -- get PlugPlayer and you're all set. This cool app is available on the iPhone App Store for $4.99.
PlugPlayer is both a UPnP renderer and UPnP control point, which means no only can you stream Jamcast to the iPhone, but you can also use PlugPlayer like a remote control to stream Jamcast to other devices in your home. Seems that PlugPlayer can also control another docked iPhone or iPod Touch running PlugPlayer.
PlugPlayer supports a variety of playback formats, including FLAC -- which is great for the Virtual Soundcard since it's both lossless and compressed. This app takes advantage of Jamcast's ability to serve album art as well.

Almost one year after Jamcast's first beta release, Software Development Solutions, Inc. is proud to announce the release Jamcast version 1.0. Community feedback throughout the duration of the beta program led to 14 public software releases, addressing over than 100 bugs and more than 50 functional enhancements. The beta program also gave Jamcast the opportunity to be tested against dozens of media streaming devices, and many interoperability issues were addressed with hardware from Sony, Samsung, Toshiba, Yamaha, and other manufacturers.
During the beta program, much worldwide attention was given to Jamcast's Virtual Soundcard feature as the news spread that there was now an easy way to stream services like Spotify and Pandora to gaming consoles and other compatible devices. In mid-2009 the Virtual Soundcard was enhanced to work directly with the improved audio engine in Windows Vista and Windows 7, thereby making the Virtual Soundcard a zero-configuration experience.
