I'm not that good with computer-sound-things but I'll try to explain, my system is a hp-pavilion with a soundcard integrated in the motherboard. It's a "Realtek audio somtehing" if not remembering wrong.

when I'm trying I get this message from the medialog

08-31-2009 12:13:16 Initialized winmm audio capture client.

which seems good I think ?
But I checked my event log in xp and it said this

An unhandled exception occurred while receiving HTTP network data @ HttpConnection.receiveHttpRequest(): 32

and that was about the program "jamcast", so I guess something here is the matter.

On my TV the only thing you see this screen saver of earth and it says
"Virtual Soundtrack"
"-/-"

I'll tried with the help from the guide on page 1 here, so I changed to "back line in/mic, line in" as recorder device.
And as recorder properties I've changed to "stereo mix" as the prefered one.

Can't give any more information I think, anything you can come up with Scott ?

Best regards Jonte
P.S. Sorry for my english, I'm from Sweden.

Hi Jonte,

Everything sounds good as your describe it. The error in the event log may or may not be related to this, but you should grab the new release that was just posted (0.9.6.5) and see if you have better luck.

Typically, if the device appears to be playing, but there is no audio, the solution lies within the sound card recording properties. Your medialog.txt looks good and shows no indication of the PS3 disconnecting, so I can only assume that it is playing silence.

Anyhow, try the new build and see if that gets you anywhere, and then take another look at your audio recording configuration. Provide screenshots if you like, just to make sure we're on the same page as far as what is correct. If you have the capability to do so, you could use Windows Sound Recorder as a test tool; if your soundcard is configured correctly, you should be able to record the captured audio to file. This might make it easier for you to test frequent changes to your audio configuration until you figure out what works.

Good luck, let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick respons Scott!

I'll tried to update it, but still with the same result, when I use windows sound recorder, it perfectly record the music I'm playing from spotify, and I got no mic's connected to the computer at the moment, so that piece should work, I agree with you that it seems like the ps3 is playing silence, it seems that way atlest.

I have tried play from winamp with the same result, just checking it wasn't any particular for spotify!

I'll send you screenshots from my settings on the sound, it is in sweden but it looks the same, check your mails spam-box for my adress Wink

Hi there. I'm using Jamcast to sync with a Nokia N78 Smartphone. So far so good BUT I found a problem using the virtual PC audio.

The virtual PC server works. I've tested both PCM and MP3 streams just fine, but the Nokia N78 UPNP player looks like is trying to download the stream before play, that means that keeps buffering forever (connection confirmed on the log file and network activity goes crazy).

I then switched to Nokia's "Internet Radio" application that looks more suitable, but can't connect to streams that have a path on the url (or at least that was my conclusion after testing it using a local shoutcast service).

Seems a limitation on Nokia´s software and not Jamcast fault, so, take it as a report.

Keep the good work!

Hi psy,

Thanks for the kudos and the feedback on this device. Smile

The buffering behavior, if I had to guess, probably relates to the fact that the Virtual Soundcard stream doesn't come with an advertised size and/or duration.

When you refer to "streams that have a path on the url", I'm not quite understanding what you mean. Can you clarify?

Thanks!

Hi Scott.

The thing with the "Internet Radio" application is this: if I use this url: http://MYIP:8000 music (from a shoutcast radio) plays fine, but if I use something like this http://MYIP:8000/streaming or http://MYIP:8000/radio.m3u I get a "cannot connect" message.

My conclusion was that the radio app is not capable to read files (playlists) and/or even paths. The stream must come from a domain/ipTongueort but I could be wrong.

The fact is that if I use http://MYIP:58641/vsc/stream it works on other devices but NOT on the phone using the Internet Radio (cannot connect).

PD: I've downloaded 0.9.6.5, I will test it again, just in case.

Hi Psy,

Sounds good. Just FYI, the URL scheme did change in the latest release. The new URL's are as follows:

LPCM:
http://server:58641/Media/audio+L16/CaptureStream

MP3 (320kbps):
http://server:58641/Media/audio+mpeg/CaptureStream

WAV:
http://server:58641/Media/audio+wav/CaptureStream

Thanks!

Sorry Scott but still no luck. Tested the mp3 stream using Totem on Linux and is working just fine, but the phone keeps buffering forever on the music player, and the Internet radio says "unable to connect".

Some things I noticed:
* URL is case-sensitive (at least on Linux).
* If I try to connect using the proper URL, I get the error message immediately, if I try to connect to a wrong path or IPTongueort, I must wait for a couple of seconds for a response.
* Service eats too much CPU while indexing mp3s, some kind of limitation can be handy.

BTW, I have only one playlist (the Virtual PC one), is there any way to create customized playlists?

Hi Psy,

I guess the question really is: is Jamcast sending data to the phone or no? If you can verify that it is sending data when the phone requests one of those streams, then my guess would be that the lack of a Content-Length header is upsetting the device. You might also check your medialog.txt just in case, but I doubt it's anything but normal in there since you reported that the stream is functioning elsewhere.

The URL definitely is case-sensitive.

Regarding the MP3 indexing, what kind of machine do you have? Was it pegging the CPU completely, or just too high for your taste? I'll make a note of your request to add the ability to throttle this process.

Regarding playlists, there is no editor/creator within Jamcast, but it will scan playlists from disk. The support formats are PLS, M3U, WPL (from Windows Media), and Jamcast will also sync up with your iTunes playlists if you have that installed. Windows Media Player will create both M3U and WPL playlists, so perhaps you can check that out.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Hi Scott.

Quote:

Yes and no Tongue
* Using the "normal" Nokia player: keeps buffering forever without doing anything (can confirm Jamcast is feeding like a madman), so yeah, seems that the player get fooled and tries to download the whole stream before playing anything.
* Using the "Internet Radio" player, just can't connect to the url.

Quote:

Mmm but you're sure all players can handle case-sensitive URLs? For example, perhaps my phone is converting the url to lower-case while trying to connect as "Internet Radio".

I'm running on an Athlon X2 5600+ and Windows XP SP3. What I see is a whole core rising to 100% while the server is indexing my mp3 base for the first time. XP did not manage multicore very well, and the system slows down and halts frequently.

Oh sorry, that was the question. Then if I save a playlist on an indexed folder, Jamcast will add it to its base. Great!

Hi psy,

I'm not sure that all potential clients will respect the case sensitivity of URL's, but I am sure that there are numerous other web/media servers out there that are case-sensitive. So far, no actual UPnP/DLNA clients have been known to have issue here, but on my side of things it would be no big deal to make this case-insensitive. I'll submit this as a feature request on your behalf. Smile

Out of curiosity, is your CPU riding high for the entire duration of the scanning process, or just at certain points? Trying to determine if possibly certain files are causing for stress for the CPU than others..

Thanks!

Keep in mind that if the user can't copy & paste the url, in most cases he/she will type the url in lower-case, since is the way you usually type URLs on the browser.

100% start when the server fires up for the first time, and last for a long time (no spikes), however, I don't see too much disc activity, and on the log I can see a couple of problems with some filenames, so, perhaps you're right. I'm not on my computer right now, but I can post the LOG for you to check.

Hi Scott. I've got time to totally reset Jamcast and reindex my music folders, I've found that:

* While scanning, the CPU remains low. I can see a lot of disk activity but is not intrusive in any way.
* After a couple of seconds the CPU starts to climb, disk activity almost halt, on the log I can see that happens just at the moment Jamcast is trying to index some WMA: "An error occurred while reading file. Object reference not set to an instance of an object."
* There are other invalid files (several oggs,a playlist and a mp3 files), but none of them seems to halt the scanning process.

If you want I can send you via PM one of the WMA files and the complete log.

Hi Psy,

I'd love to get a hold of any or all of your tracks that are causing errors -- just one of each of course (1 OGG, 1 WMA, 1 playlist of each type if multiple). If you can provide, I'll definitely be able to square this away. I would not be surprised if your CPU issue is related to one of these issues.

You can email them to me if you like -- support@sdstechnologies.com.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I'm running Jamcast on ASUS X57V series laptop with Vista. I'm streaming the virtual audio stream to my Squeezebox using the http://server:58641/Media/audio+mpeg/CaptureStream URL.

The sound can be heard, but it has a constant, fixed volume (below normal sound level). It has no effect whether the sound is muted through windows mixer. The only audio capture device shown is microphone.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!

I can't get my PS3 to play the virtual soundcard at all, it is there but everytime I choose to play it just closes again. I checked the media server logfile after reading through this thread, and this is what is says:

Initialized WASAPI audio capture client.
Default format: PCM 32-bit 48000 Hz 2 channels
Capture format: PCM 16-bit 48000 Hz 2 channels
Output format: audio/L16 16-bit 48000 Hz 2 channels
Capture broadcast started.
Client 192.168.0.12 added to capture broadcast.
WARNING: Detected glitch in WASAPI capture stream: AUDCLNT_BUFFERFLAGS_DATA_DISCONTINUITY
Client 192.168.0.12 removed from capture broadcast.

Any idea how to solve it? I'm running Windows 7 and the soundcard is Audigy 2 ZS.

Hello. Smile

I've got some ideas, sure. But, let's get you on the most recent build first if you don't mind... the upcoming release (0.9.7.x) has major changes to the Virtual Soundcard and a ton of new logging. Send me a private message when you get this and I'll forward along a download link.

Thanks!

No matter what option I pick it always pick up the audio that is coming from my microphone. I try leaving it unplugged, reinstalled Jamcast, and restarted my computer and no luck at all. The log file contains no error at all it just say

added to capture broadcast.
removed from capture broadcast.

I know I have everything setup correctly because I can talk through my microphone and other people can hear what is going on my desktop through Ventrilo.
