Jamcast Beta 1.7 (0.9.7.32) has been released and is available for download. This release includes a number of bug fixes and performance and usability enhancements, particularly with the Virtual Soundcard feature.
The media I/O buffer architecture was completely overhauled in Beta 1.7 in an attempt to improve performance and memory management. The Virtual Soundcard should receive the greatest benefit from this overhaul, and it is expected that Windows Vista/7 users will now experience less audio glitching than in previous versions. The Virtual Soundcard buffer size is now configurable via the Options tab in the Jamcast Server Manager. The default capture buffer will hold 10 seconds of audio, and overrun protection is achieved by dumping the entire capture buffer when necessary, thereby disposing of the oldest audio data in an effort to minimize audio delay as much as possible. Detailed buffer I/O statistics are also now written to the media server logfile for diagnostic purposes.
Also notable in this release is the addition of FLAC as an available transcoding output target format. For devices that support FLAC playback, this means you now have a lossless compression output option for the Virtual Soundcard and other transcoded media.
Jamcast handles multiple networks automatically now; in previous versions, users with multiple network adapters were required to specify which network Jamcast should listen on. In Beta 1.7, Jamcast will detect and listen on all available networks, and network services are enabled and terminated at runtime as network availability changes (for example, you connect to a VPN). This ensures that Jamcast will always be available to other devices regardless of your PC's network configuration.

Please report any issues with this release as soon as possible, either via the forums or the support email address. Due to the major changes to critical subsystems, a bug fix release is scheduled and will follow as needed, and Beta 1.6 will remain available for download for a while longer should you need to roll back.
