`Hi,
Maybe this is a silly question, but i don´t know much about UPnP standards etc.
I have an Xbox 360 and i use Jamcat with it. I am annoyed over the noise that the 360 makes. So i am looking for another media extender to use for listening to music, and wathc movies. I want the device to be cheap so i found the xtreamer.

I would like to know if jamcast works with the xtreamer? I want to be able to use the virutal soundcard with this device. I don´t want to buy the xtreamer unless i know it will work. Anyone tired it out? or does anyone know if it should work the same way as with the 360?

Hi Bulldog76,

First off, what noise are you referring to on the 360?

Regarding the Xtreamer, it's UPnP (and advertises the UPnP logo which means it should be certified) so theoretically all should work well. That's theoretically, in practice it's not always the case for a variety of reasons. Therefore it would be great if someone stopped by and let us know, specifically with the Virtual Soundcard.

Or, perhaps you could ask the folks in the Xtreamer user community (do they have forums?) to try it out and let you know. Wink

Thanks!

I've tried yesterday but I'm not sure yet how Jamcast works. Still figuering that out. There is a UPnP "browser" in Xtreamer, but it only shows my computer and Vuze(bittorent) when I run that program.
But I noticed that Jamcast found the Xtreamer in the Devices-tab.

EDIT: Pulled this out of the UPnP-log.

If it helps. This is the Xtreamer.

EDIT2: If it helps, found out that Xtreamer is using GeeXboX uShare A free UPnP A/V & DLNA Media Server for Linux. http://ushare.geexbox.org/

Strange is that I can see 3 Media devices in windows explorer(under Network), I'm running windows 7. My own PC, Vuze when that program is running and the Xtreamer, but no Jamcast. Shouldn't Jamcast be there as well?

This logg might tell:

I can see the Jamcast in the UPnP tab in the xtreamer IF im in that tab while I start the jamcast on my PC. But when I try to enter Jamcast on the Xtreamer it thinks for a long time and then it shows up with an empty folder.

Hi.
I put a question in a couple of xtreamer threads in other communityes, lets see what will happen,

The noise in my 360 comes from the fans i think. They are quite loud, maybe i would be helped out if i upgraded to a 360 with the latest chioset, maybe it woul be quieter, but mine is 2 years old and sounds lika an airplane., Smile

WELPH: hope you get it working, i am eager to know if it will work.

Ah, yeah. Mine's a bit loud too, I think the noise varies with what DVD drive is installed -- MS uses different manufacturers for those drives and some are quieter than others.

My dvd is not an issue, jsut the fans. But i heard that the new ones with the Jasper Chipset are much quiter.
I am thinking of either getting a new Elite, changing to ps3 or getting a media extender that works with Jamcast. (that would be the most important thing that hte virutal audio works with it, other stuff is just bonus.)

I was first thinking of getting a Tvix 65, but saw in this forum that someone could not get it to wrork with jamcast, (and the falut was in the Tvix firmware), so i got cold feet and thougt that maybe that Jamcast does not work with the xtreamer either. Until i know i wont buy one.

Have put out the question in varius communities but no answer on that one...

If somone here knows a cheap media extender that works with the virtual playlist then let me know. Or if it can be confirmed that the new 360s are not noisy

Have you looked at the Roku Soundbridge?

http://soundbridge.roku.com/soundbridge/index.php

They are not well supported anymore (end of life), but I've been pleased with mine for 4+ years and would still recommend it to anyone. It is a very nice device.

I have tried "almost" everything atm, so I don't know what to do. Probobly something with my PC, I can't see the Jamcast as a media device in my Network. And therefor the Xtreamer doesn't either.

Windows7, and I'm using a D-link(router) as firewall(don't know which, working atm) It's both wire and wireless. But I'm using wired. But the router shouldn't interfere with my PC due to that the jamcast-server is on that PC. And I have seen that the jamcast can see the Xtreamer under the device-tab.

But you cannot find jamcast on your xtreamer? Isn´t there a library that says UPnP in the xtreamer? the little i know is that Jamcst should be there.

I can only find Jamcast when I'm in that library when I start/restart Jamcast. But when I try to enter, it loads for quite a time and then it shows me an empty folder....And when I get out of UPnP-library and re-enter, Jamcast aren't there.

ok.
Strange. Then maybe it doesn´t work. maybe the device does not have full UPnP capabilities?
That is the case with the Tvix 6500. Wondering if a Popcorn hour will work?

I guess it's something with either my PC, windows7 or jamcast(still beta). Xtreamer is able to see my PC, vuze and Tversity which all is mapped up as Upnp-devices in the xtreamer.

I have been able to stream to the xtreamer, the upnp is not very good on the xt and crashed when i tried to connect to the sound card. I then tried the direct links given in faq's and it works with flac and mpeg, you have to use a shortcut which links to the stream here is mine:

[playlist]
File1=http://192.168.2.2:58641/Media/audio/flac/CaptureStream
Title1=XFM
Length1=-1
NumberOfEntries=1
Version=2

put the address of your computer in place of mine and create a file called stream.plsx (name is not important ext is)

you must ensure your card is passing the stream, it is explained on this forum.

I can stream deezer and any sound with no hangups.

I can only see the Jamcast in the Xtreamers UPnP-directory for a short time. But I have succesfully got enough time to start the stream before it disapeared...

Does the author of this program have any ideas why it disapears?

Maybe it has something with my about 5 years old PC to do......Wink
