Hi, Scott!
I've read that Spotify recently decided to stream in Ogg Vorbis and 320 kbps.

Therefore I've been thinking if there also should be a "ForceOggVorbisCaptureStream", if you want to stream and listen to Ogg Vorbis files?

Spotify seem to have made this change from mp3 to Ogg Vorbis after some heavy critique from premium listeners/users.

The reason I'm asking is that I don't seem to get a grip on my old Pinnacle Soundbridge M400 to stop buffering every now and then (when I'm playing/streaming from Spotify, that is), and then I read this about their change to the Ogg Vorbis format.

Could this be the reason my SB is buffering so much (every 6-8 minutes for 15 seconds). Or is it just a sign that my SB buffer is too small.

Hey there!

Well, once Jamcast gets ahold of the audio from Spotify (or anything else via Virtual Soundcard for that matter), the audio as already been decoded by the Spotify client to uncompressed, raw LPCM audio data. Jamcast's "ForceMP3CaptureStream" option re-encodes that raw audio data to MP3 with the intent being to either make the stream compatible with a device that doesn't support LPCM streaming, or to minimize the required network throughput. So, having a similar option for OGG would make sense in the same way, assuming you have a device that supports OGG (the Soundbridge does not). It's worth mentioning that re-encoding to either MP3 or OGG would result in additional loss of quality as neither are a lossless compression format. Does this make sense?

Regarding the re-buffering, this is likely a network throughput issue. You're hooked up wirelessly I'm assuming? Changing wifi channels on your router helps a lot of people, and going back to our previous discussion ForceMP3CaptureStream setting is an option too as it requires approximately 25% continuous throughput from your wireless network, and the Soundbridge can also buffer more seconds of audio.

Hi, Scott!

At last it seems I got a hold on the problem to why my Soundbridge was buffering every 8 minute for 15 seconds.

I changed my laptops Vista Home Premium RWIN settings in the good old "command prompt". At speedguide.net I got all the help I needed. (http://www.speedguide.net/read_articles.php?id=2574)

If you type "netsh int tcp show global", you will see your current RWIN settings.

I changed my settings to "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled", and it worked like a charm. No more buffering from my Soundbridge. Razz

I dont know, but maybe this should be a permanent Announcement in the forum?

Interesting read there, what router do you have? The article seems to indicate that the auto-tuning negatively affects only certain routers. I personally have never had such an issue, I use a Linksys WRT54G.

In any case, I'm really glad to hear you got this resolved, that's quite a victory for you. Smile

I have a D-Link AirPlus G DI-524 router.

I know it's an old, cheap, crappy router by todays standards and it is not even located in an optimal way.

The reason I tried to change RWIN settings was only to be sure that I had tried every possible trick before I would be forced to move it or buy a new "stronger" router.

But now I can spend the router money on other x-mas presents. Yeee-haaaa!!
