Hi!
I installed Jamcast yesterday, and everything worked smoothly right off the bat.
However, when I tried to run it today, it seems the PS3 doesn't recognize it as a media center anymore.
The Jam-icon has vanished from the Music selection on the PS3-menu.
In the Jamcast Server Manager, my PS3 shows up.
WMP on PS3 is there, and that is working properly.
I have tried diasbling the service WMP Network Sharing, and disabling the firewall, but it didn't help.
I can get the icon to appear on my PS, if I uninstall and then install Jamcast again.
But when I try to access the icon the "virtual soundcard" doesn't show, and all the other choices;
All songs, Artist, Title etc. is blank for about a minute when entering before showin a DLNA 2006 error.
I've tried googling the DLNA 2006 error, and there is many people who had issues with that in conjunction with WMP and the likes. However, there are about as many different solutions as there are people reporting problems..
None of the answers I've tried has helped so far.
Please help!! I deeply enjoyed the software and really want it to work again!
My operating system is Windows 7 Home Preminum, using only one wireless router for both PS3 and laptop.
By the way, last night i installed the Sony music service VidZone.
Do you think this could be causing any problems?
Thanks for any help!

Hi fker,
Sorry to hear you ran into some trouble. The good news, I think, is that you had it working once so it's reasonable to think we'll get it working again.
To answer your post in reverse, I've not gotten any specific reports on compatibility issues with VidZone, nor am I familiar with it, but since the timing is coincidental I'd definitely suggest uninstalling VidZone as a troubleshooting measure, if it comes to it.
Yes, those DLNA error codes on the PS3 seem to mean everything, or nothing, depending on the website you're reading. Let me know if you ever figure those out.
I know this might sound obvious, but make sure you're accessing Jamcast via the Music menu from the console (not via Videos or Photos).
Could you check you Windows Application event log for errors/warnings from Jamcast? Let's start there looking for obvious big problems. To get there, go to Start->Run and type "eventvwr.exe", then on the left navigate into Windows Logs then Application. You'll be looking for any errors or warnings where the source relates to Jamcast, and if you find any please double-click and paste the error message detail here.
Let me know if you find anything, and we'll take it from there.
Thanks!
Scott

Thanks for responding so fast!
Ah yes, the applications log, I completly forgot to do so earlier on when searching for a solution on my own. I read trough all the topics in here that could relate to my situation..
Anyway, the log states there's been 16000 warnings from jamcast the last 24 hours.
It seems all read the same;
"An unhandled exception occurred while receiving UPnP discovery network data: Forårsaket unntak av typen (caused exceptions of the type) System.OutOfMemoryException."
Got any idea what this could mean?
It's probably closely related to my problems, since the warnings seems to start around the same time as my problems began.
Much grateful for your time!

Hi fker,
Has your PS3 been powered on this whole time? Or perhaps some other UPnP/DLNA device?
Something is trying to communicate with Jamcast in the context of device discovery, but that communication is failing repeatedly. It would be useful to figure out what that device is; the PS3 is not likely to cause this issue.
Have you restarted the Jamcast service lately? Does Task Manager show any unusual memory usage for jamcastsvc.exe?
We'll figure it out.
Thanks!

Again, thanks for responding.
No the PS3 has not been turned on the whole time, I've tried multiple restarts of both PS3, laptop and router.
It seems jamcast uses about 22,000 kB of memory.
I've tried uninstalling VidZone, but no luck there either.
Restarting the service jamcast does the same trick as un/installing it, ie; the icon shows up on my PS3 but when accessing it, it gives me that DLNA error again.
It also seems like the device tab in Jamcast manager repopulates really slow, after restarting the service, the jamcast icon will pop up immediatly on my PS, but in the jamcast manager on the laptop it takes like ~5 minutes before my PS shows up.
I currently live in an apartment building and my PS shows 6 different WMP-icons in addition to mine.
On the devices section in the JSM it is the same thing, except there is only a few that is identified as WMP, the rest is just called "default upnp device". But I figure it's the same ones as shows up on my PS because it's the same number of devices.
Maby all this could be making some issues?
I wonder if changing the channel on my wireless could be helpful?
So far I have not bothered to do so, because I've never done it before, and since it worked once I really thought the solution had to be simple, but..
Do you think it could help?
Other than those unidentifiable default units, the only things showing is my PS3 and my router.
Another thing that is maby worth mentioning is that when I try to make changes to any of the settings of the devices listed, the JSM ALWAYS locks up, and have to be restarted for the changes to seemingly take effect.
I'm quite baffled with all the issues I've had with this, especially since I'm using a laptop that I'm certain has NO malware or other stuff, and is just over a month old
Thanks for your help so far!

A little update;
noticed that the device section of JSM now has found two additional UPNP devices.
From the log file provided with JSM, one of the units seems to have some issues:
"01.27.2010 19:15:35 WARNING: An HTTP exception occurred while attempting to get a device description from "http://158.38.106.57:49994/RootDevice.xml".
01.27.2010 19:15:35 Unable to get device description.
Location:
http://158.38.106.57
:49994/RootDevice.xml"
Do you know of any way of trying to identify what device this is? Or if it's possible to ignore it's signal?
I know for sure it's not from my apartment, as all "internet-devices" I have is my pc, router and PS3.

So you don't know what's at IP 158.38.106.57? What's the IP/subnet mask where Jamcast is running?
Is your PC configured to be on the DMZ?

No I don't know what's at "158.38.106.57", it's something I'm picking up from another apartment..
Do you think it could be critical?
I'm not exactly sure what you mean when asking if my PC is on the DMZ?
I've got broadband which is provided through the IT-faction of the school which my g/f is enrolled to.
I'm not sure how they have set up the connection, I'm sure they have a DMZ, but I don't see how that could affect me.
In my apartment I don't use DMZ at all, at least not consciously
I've checked my router settings and it is certainly not activated there.
If what your asking is if I can access the web in general, then yes.
The only limits I know of is that we are not allowed to use p2p-sharing with copyrighted material. They have some way of scanning the data..
Just for a test, I just installed TVersity, and it's working without any problems, even radio streaming is working flawless.
I just don't get this.. The Jamcast Server Manager shows my PS3, but still PS3 can't see jamcast---
(Can still force it to appear by restarting the service)
My jamcast is still churning out error warnings in the Event Logger, same as I've listed earlier, out of memory warning.
However, this is the only error it's reporting.
The IP where Jamcast is running is 192.168.0.101 (my pc)
netmask is 255.255.255.0

Hi fker,
The device at 158.38.106.57 is outside your private network. There are 2 concerns about this; one, this typically isn't possible because of how routers work and two, all of those error messages in the event log may be related to your issue with the PS3.
Most routers allow you to designate a single PC to be on the DMZ, which essentially routes all internet traffic to that IP. It's like putting that device directly on the internet instead of behind the router. It's not a recommended setting to use but comes in handy in certain scenarios. Your PC being on the DMZ would explain why internet traffic is making its way into your private network, so that's why I asked.
At a very minimum, those warnings in the event log are making it impossible for you to find other errors which might help us determine what the issue with the PS3 is. The OutOfMemoryException warning is happening during a receive operation and without the IP being logged there it's impossible to know what device is causing this problem, but I can't think of a scenario where a known device like the PS3 would cause this one.
Here's my suggestion as a next step: disconnect your router from the internet (temporarily of course), clear out your event log, and restart the Jamcast service in addition to the PS3. Uninstall TVersity for now too since that is a potential point of conflict. The excessive warnings to the event log should disappear at this point, and if any other warnings/errors appear we can be sure that they are a result of something on your local network only.
Report back with any event log messages, and also if you don't mind please paste your upnplog.txt (located in the Jamcast install directory) to
http://pastebin.org
and share it here.
Strange stuff going on here for sure, but hopefully with the above procedure we can rule a bunch of things out and focus on what's important.
Thanks!
Scott

Thanks ever so much for all the help!
Got it running again now, after disconnecting my router
Finally I can enjoy that blistering voice of mr Dio on my home theater again!
The error messages seems to have subsided as well!
I only got one error from the event logger, and it was right after startup of the service:
"A socket exception occurred while shutting down the server manager: Indeksen og antallet må referere til en plasseringen i bufferen. Parameternavn: chars"
This was my first time restarting the router since before I wrote to you for help. Maby this time it did the trick.
I'll see if it is still working tomorrow, and if it is I think the router restart did the trick.
However, I find it strange it did not work previously
I can think of a couple things I want to try tomorrow to see if the problems reappears, if any of them indeed causes it, I will post it here again.
THE IMPORTANT THING IS THAT IT'S WORKING!!!
I've uploaded parts of the log at
http://pastebin.org/83729.
I signed with my own name, am a bit in a haze (as usual).
Thanks ever so much for all your help!

Hi Scott
Sorry for taking so long with update, but the day after my last post everything stopped working again!
After that I got a bit sick of it and just uninstalled the program.
However, about 14 days ago, I found out I wanted to give it another try, and ta-da-da-daa now it works!
It still has some quirks when it comes to starting the program.
It seems the only way to make it work is to have the Jamcast service running on the computer before I turn on my PS3.
Then when the PS3 has started I have to restart the service on my PC to get it to appear in the menu on the ps.
An odd number of times this rule doesn't apply however, and sometimes it might work all the time, while other times it doesn't work at all
But, I believe it works better now than it did when I was writing all those posts to you. Have you made some changes to the program lately?

Hey there,
Good to hear from you again. My apologies too, for taking almost a week to get back to you.
Nope, no major changes to speak of. The Version 1 release was essentially the last beta release with some enhancements to the licensing infrastructure, and a couple of tiny fixes that wouldn't have any effect at all on any of this.
I can't say for sure because I'm not there obviously, but typically intermittent network-related issues like this are either because of the router (some routers are weird like that) or conflicts from other UPnP/DLNA software running on the same PC as Jamcast (although the latter is much less of a problem these days due to some enhancements I made to Jamcast a few betas ago).
Have you tried running wired instead of wireless from Jamcast to the PS3? What kind of router do you have?
Thanks!
Scott

I've been getting similar errors in the eventlog as fker
Mine reads
"An unhandled exception occurred while processing a UPnP NOTIFY operation: Åtgärdens tidsgräns har överskridits"
(Action ran out of time)
Any idea what is the cause of these ?
Occurs about 5-10 times/day

No, I've never tried using wire directly to the ps.
Maby I'll try it one day when my spirits are high, but for now I'm content with having to restart the service a couple of times before I use it.
It's not all that much of a hazzle.
I'm going to try my laptop/jamcast with an xbox in my brothers house and see if there is any difference there, probably this weekend if I remember to
The router I'm using is a D-link DI-524 Wireless G.

Hey jonsey,
These are network timeouts, meaning Jamcast tried to respond to a device notification and was not able to get a response within the allotted timeout period. Hard to say what device we're talking about since the error message doesn't include the IP address, but if everything is working OK on your end this is probably more of a nuisance than anything.
Thanks!
Scott
