    Jamcast support for TViX 6500 with UPnP support

    I can see the jamcast server on my tvix.
    When i select "My music collection" -> "Browse playlists" -> "Virtural Soundcard" is this directory empty and no sound.

    Me too, exactly the same behviour. PC runs Win7 64-bit and TViX latest 1.3.168
    Any ideas?

    Hey guys,

    I've spent some time with a few users regarding this device, troubleshooting via network captures that were provided to me. My best guess is that the TViX device has an issue with the fact that the Virtual Soundcard stream is not seekable (ie no FF/RW capabilities). Not having one of these devices to test with personally, I've admittedly not been able to come to a definitive conclusion.

    If I learn anything new I'll be sure to share it with the community. If any of you happen upon new information, please do share it with me.

    Thanks for your reply.

    You say that the playlist is not seekable, but from my understandning neither is Shoutcast playlists, or am I wrong? And Shoutcast playlists works perfectly to play/stream with the TViX.

    True, XorXaX.

    OK, well let's try this. Go to the Devices tab int he Jamcast Server Manager, right-click the TViX and choose Properties. Change ForceMP3CaptureStream to True. Apply your settings and restart the server and device to make sure the device isn't caching any old browse results.

    Does that help by chance?

    I think you might be on to something! It did not really work, but (!) now when I browse the "Virtual Soundcard"-directory I can see the playlist "Virtual Soundcard"! And when I try to play it it even tries to start it. It says it is trying to read from http://192.168.0.120:58641/Media/audio/mpeg/CaptureStream, it even starts to buffer for a few seconds But it never starts to play the stream, it just stays at 0:00 in time, and after like 30 seconds it stops trying and returns to the "Virtual Soundcard"-directory.

    Somehow the devices does not get marked as DLNA-compatible, do I tried marking it as DLNA-compatible too, but with no luck.

    OK, let's see if we can figure out what happened there. The request from the device and subsequent streaming should be logged to medialog.txt -- can you paste here the request/response logging for the entire streaming transaction? I'm wondering if any data was sent to the device at all...

    My pleasure. I'm tryin' my best... Smile

    From the logfile it appears that the device is disconnecting pretty quick; within a second or less even. Moreover, very little data is being passed across the network, so I'm not sure why the device is taking a full 20 seconds to indicate that it's done.

    You can verify that the stream itself is good by opening it from WMP or any other media player software that can open URL's (foobar, etc.). From WMP, you can go to File->Open URL and enter the following:

    http://192.168.1.10:58642/Media/audio/mpeg/CaptureStream

    (change the IP to the address where Jamcast is installed)

    This will ensure for diagnostics sake that it's really not Jamcast that is ending the stream prematurely (so we don't chase the wrong issue).

    Honestly, I still think the device is unhappy with the "Accept-Ranges: none" coming back from Jamcast, an indication that the device won't be able to do any seeking... this being an educated guess based on behavior I've seen on other devices. This guess is further reinforced by the seek-related stuff I see in the logfile for the stream request from the device.

    Let me know what you find.

    I don't know how much time they have put in to the UPnP support of the TViX software either. It might not be fully inplelemted and maybe it will better in future updates of the firmware...

    I'm not ignoring you, XorXax, just struggling with coming up with something intelligent to say here. Wink

    By all accounts Jamcast is working (cool about the Bravia btw!), just not with the TViX. I've never gotten any reports that it actually will work with the TViX, the logfile indicates that Jamcast is responding to requests from the device but it seems the device hangs up... I still think it's upset with the fact that the stream is not seekable.

    Do you have a support option for TViX that would amount to anything productive you think?

    I hate to throw in the towel -- it's not my style -- but I'm about out of things for you to try... Sad

    I belive it is some trouble with the TViX firware, it seems like it does not inplements DLNA very well.

    I've tried playing musc streamed from WMP12 via DLNA with no luck, the TViX locks up entirely. But from my Bravia TV it works perfect!

    I did just post a question to the TViX support asking how they are thinking aroud inplementing full DLNA-client support.

    I will try to keep people updated in this thread.

    You're very welcome. Sorry I couldn't give you a comprehensive solution...

    Respectfully, I would rephrase your question to TViX as I don't believe it's DLNA-related. As a matter of fact, according to your logfiles Jamcast does not appear to be treating the device as DLNA-compliant (which is OK). You can verify this by checking the IsDlna device property via the Jamcast Server Manager. If I were you, I'd ask them about non-seekable content and send them this:

    Those are the HTTP response headers from your logfile. Since we know the the MP3 stream itself is valid, I can only conclude that it's something about the headers that the TViX doesn't like (and my bet is on the Accept-Ranges header).

    I hope you get a good answer. Hopefully they can at least verify a known issue from that. Let me know! Smile

    Hi!

    An update; I still havn't been able to stream music from my computer to my TViX using Jamcast.

    But, yesterday I stumbled upon DSBridge and tried it out to stream Spotify to my TViX.

    And it works! Well kind of at least, it starts to play the music for 10 seconds then it cuts out. So now I might be on to something.

    I will continue to try the Jamcast betas also to see if they might be worth paying for some day.
