Hi utopian,

Thanks. Smile

Are you talking about the Virtual Soundcard specifically, or all of your media with browse capabilities? And do you want to just stream to a PC or is there a device that you want to stream to?

Let me know more detail and I'll see what I can come up with. There are a few different things that I could recommend depending on your exact requirements.

Thanks!

Was just wondering if its possible to browse to my music library from a web connected pc outwith the home network .. say be able to browse to: http://mydomain/portnumber/jamcast kinda thing ? . I sit behind a natted firewall so would probably have to do some port forwarding which isn't a problem or use some other front end software to get to it... i know that ipod touch and plug player has been mentioned.. anything for a PC ?

Many Thanks

Hi utopian,

What's needed here is a UPnP software player that allows you to specify the IP/port of the server since automatic discovery won't work over the internet. I thought that foobar2000 with bubbleguum's UPnP plugin had that, but it turns out I was mistaken. I can't actually find any software that will do this...

Does anyone know of software that can accomplish this task?

Hi Scott!

foo_upnp supports streaming over the Internet, but with a caveat: only foobar2000 or PlugPlayer can be used as the client. Basically it is implemented as a hack to bypass SSDP discovery. You can set manually the Internet facing IP or hostname, and the port in the server conf (you can set 80 as the port and this will pass most corporate firewalls). The client (foobar2000) offer the possibility to connect to it with View->Add remote UPnP Server. I added a login/password (Basic HTTP Authentification) for a little more security and made sure the http server will serve only known URLs.
PlugPlayer gives the possibility to specify the device's description URL. That's why I could support it as a remote Internet client.

To my knowledge, all other solutions involve using a VPN, which is not that simple for most people to setup. PlugPlayer can also access Media Servers as long as they are NATed (PlugPlayer will rewrite the resource URL in DIDL with the public IP). But in that case, the MS is world accessible, not that great Smile.

Hey bubbleguuum!

Thanks for this information, but I'm still missing something (sorry for being dense). I was under the impression that the foo_upnp client, via the "Add remote foobar2000 UPnP server..." menu option, could only add foo_upnp media servers (ie not Jamcast). If I'm understanding that right, then what is it exactly is Jamcast missing to be able to support remote playback from the foo_upnp client?

Because whatever it is that is missing, it's being added ASAP. Smile

Hi,

Tversity has this feature. It has both a flash and a (basic) HTML interface/player that allows you to access your stored media via a browser.

Your media is then available from wherever you can access your media server (I do this to my via no-ip and some port forwarding).

I'm currently trialling Jamcast and I like what I see, but this feature would be an excellent addition; I have a feeling the Jamcast team would make a nice looking interface!

Hi Beps360 (and everyone else),

We introduced some functionality in Version 1.1 to facilitate internet streaming. This is accomplished via foobar2000's interface, which is a very nice experience I think. Here's a screenshot of how I have it configured for my use:

There is more information here: http://www.sdstechnologi...t-Using-foobar2000.ashx

There are no plans at this time to build a browse GUI into Jamcast, but I hope you'll find the solution involving foobar2000 favorable.

Let me know if you have any questions or feedback about this.

Thanks!
