Hi. I have last version of JamCast Beta (0.9.8.33) and I'm triying to send my laptop audio to a Samsung 8000 TV cause I saw that with that version it was possible and that's true, I can hear my laptop sound card if I force MP3 format. The problem is that the sound is soooooo weak and if I put the TV sound at maximum you can hear music a little but with an awful quality. It's not problem of the WIFI connection (that I only use to connect the PC with the router) because I can see HD films fluently so is it normal with my TV, it's jamcast problem or is my laptot's sound card problem??
Thanks a lot.

Hi Carlos,
What operating system is your laptop running? If it's XP, what you describe is usually due to your recording input being set to a microphone instead of Stereo Mix or similar. Have you gone thru the process documented earlier in this thread on how to change that?
Thanks!

Thanks Scott, I rode those posts and I didn't know it shares the microphone's recording sound. I'm running Jamcast on Vista OS and I can only choose microphone's recording input (or I don't know how to select Stereo Mix
). I realized that I had the volume of the microphone almost at minimun so I think that's the weak sound problem but I would say that the quality won't improve untill I change the recording input. How do I change the recording input??
Thanks!

Hi, I recently installed Jamcast in order to use the virtual sound card with my Teac WAP8500, but I am having problems. For some reason the sound is being massively amplified and unless I have the stereo mix and Wave volumes near absolute minimum the Teacs output is clipped. I tried the same setup with my xbox360 and have had no problems. The volume levels have to be good and high with the xbox, which is normal.
The big problem is that because the soundcard volumes have to be kept so low, there is a lot of distortion being broadcast.

Hello,
What operating system do you have Jamcast installed on? The reason I ask, in the case of XP Jamcast is heavily reliant upon the capabilities of your sound card (ie Stereo Mix), but in either case Jamacast is streaming exactly what it gets out to the device with no modification to the dynamics of the audio stream.
If you are using XP, I might suggest tracking down some different drivers for your audio card. They don't have to necessarily be newer... just different than the ones you have now.
Thanks!

Hi Scot,
I'm using XP. I have tried two different drivers but with the same results.
What I don't understand is why the outputted volume is correct to the xbox but not the WAP8500.
I also checked the volume levels from the stereo mix with Sony Sound Forge 9 and they are correct.
I'll try and use a different sound card and see what happens.
I'll keep you posted,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
Yeah, that is strange...
I guess I wasn't thinking too clearly with my last reply, it seems less likely to be a sound card thing if the audio is just fine to the 360.
You might try as an experiment setting ForceMP3CaptureStream on the WAP8500 device, to see what difference if any an MP3 stream makes (if it's not already streaming to the WAP8500 as MP3). You can set this to True by right-clicking the Teac on the Devices tab and choosing Properties.
Thanks!

Hi Scott,
Just thought I'd let you know that I got the virtual sound card to work with my WAP8500.
The problem was that the WAP8500 has an auto normalize function built in.
This meant that when I had virtually no sound coming out of the sound card and the WAP8500 began connecting to the virtual sound card, the WAP8500 normalized to the sound cards THD level and played the file.
However if I had sound coming out of the sound card at any volume level and the WAP8500 connected to the virtual sound card, it refused to play the file and showed up random kbps values on the screen.
The way I solved the problem was to use the imitate Windows Media Center function.
I'm not sure why that fixes it , but as long as it does I'm happy
Stefan

Hi Michael,
On the LG BD390 I believe you need to use a special setting in Jamcast to get the Virtual Soundcard working right. Open Server Manager and go to the devices tab, the right-click on the LG device and choose Properties. Set
EnableSeekTrickMode
to True, then try again. If that doesn't work, go back into the device properties again and set
ForceMP3CaptureStream
to True as well.
If you're still having issues, let me know if anything changed after making those adjustments, and paste your medialog.txt (located in the Jamcast installation folder) to
http://pastebin.org
and share it here so I can take a look.
Thanks!

Hey Michael,
Bad news I'm afraid. The LG DLNA-enabled products like the BD390 have certain way they request the audio stream from the server (in chunks), which works fine for audio stored on disk but not for "live" media like the Virtual Soundcard. The device is essentially asking Jamcast for audio from the future, which doesn't exist yet -- if that makes sense. The glitches you hear are the result of this behavior -- you keep hearing the same audio, almost.
There's another thread I found for another LG product, and your logfile exhibits the same behavior. It makes sense that LG would be using the same DLNA software on all of their products.

Sorry I don't have better news for ya, but I'm happy you've at least got it working on the Xbox360.
Thanks!

I just downloaded Jamcast on advice of a friend -- my system is Win7 Professional Service Pack 1, running 64-bit. The device I am trying to stream to is a Sony STR-DA5600ES receiver.
I installed Jamcast, and could immediately see the Jamcast volume from the receiver. There were three items under that: My Music; Virtual Soundcard; Podcasts.
I presume that Virtual Soundcard is what I want, in order to reproduce music playing on the computer. Found Virtual Soundcard in two places browsing via the receiver, but clicking on either of them produced no sound.

Hi joe,
Thanks for checking out Jamcast!
Tell me, does the Sony device appear to be playing silence when you choose the Virtual Soundcard? Or not playing at all? Any errors?
Also, be advised that you have to click "Virtual Soundcard" twice in either location -- once to enter the folder, and then a second time to select the single track contained within that folder to start playback.
Thanks!
Scott
