Hi,

I've just upgraded from the beta version of Jamcast. I'm running Windows Vista so I haven't made any changes to the default settings as I was expecting it to work straight away.

I'm intending to use it to stream music from Spotify on my laptop to my PS3 however the Virtual Soundcard option does not appear under the music menu on the PS3. The PS3 icon appears under the Devices tab of the Jamcast server manager.

I didn't have this issue with the beta software.

The laptop is successfully connected to the PS3 over the wireless network. I know this because I'm already sharing my music files, outside of Jamcast.

Where should I start in diagnosing the problem?

Thanks.

Hi renato_1979,

Thanks for stopping by, I'm sorry to hear you ran into troubles.

Are you running a firewall of any sort? Jamcast should automatically configuration your Windows firewall for you, but 3rd party firewalls you're on your own. As a first step, I would recommend temporarily turning off any firewalls you have running and then restart the Jamcast service.

In combination with the above, you might also shut down any other UPnP servers running on the same PC as Jamcast. This isn't typically necessary these days, but it's worth trying nonetheless. Same as above, if you make any changes restart the Jamcast service afterward.

Start there and let me know how you do. I'm hoping it's a firewall thing and you just need a new exception for Jamcast; the jamcastsvc.exe changed install locations after beta so you'd need a new exception pointing to the right place.

Thanks!

Hi Scott,

I only have the Windows firewall and I have no other UPnP servers running. Is there anything else I could check?

Hey there,

Looking back what what I wrote, I wanted to clarify that you should definitely try disabling the Windows Firewall, then restart the Jamcast service. While the installer should take care of the proper firewall exceptions, we should rule it out as a possible problem.

Let me know if you already did that and I misunderstood your post.

Thanks!

Hi,

You're right. It works when the firewall is disabled. So I added the file you mentioned to the exceptions list. Thanks very much for your help.

I have the same problem, it worked fine with beta but it stopped working now when I updated. I don't see the virtual soundcard and for me turning off the firewall did not help either. So I am not sure what to check for now.

Hey Jopp,

Sorry for the delay in getting back with you on this.

Did you restart the Jamcast service after turning off the firewall? Are you running any other UPnP software on that same PC. If you turn those off and restart Jamcast, does that help?

If it worked in beta and not now... that's backwards. Sad

Thanks!
