Hi,
Just installed Jamcast and got it setup to work on my Roku devices fairly quickly.

What I am seeing is that I can stream music (ie. pandora) to one device fine.

If I try to stream to more than one roku device (have one on each floor), I can multiple cuts outs. If I stream to just one device, all is ok except for an occasional drop.

I tried changing the buffer size to 60 but that did not seem to help.

It seems to be a wireless network issue (all connected via wireless) but not sure...

Any thoughts?

Hi markos2060,

Thanks for reporting this. Tell me, do both units get choppy or is just one of them. If just one, is it the first to start playing or the second?

Are the cut-outs audible only, or does/do the Roku unit(s) visually indicate that they are rebuffering?

Thanks!
Scott

Hi,
Pls see replies below:

1st unit engaged seems ok but still drops now and then. 2nd unit drops and/or the feed gets accelerated like it is trying to catch up...

Are the cut-outs audible only, or does/do the Roku unit(s) visually indicate that they are rebuffering?

The roku does not indicate anything. The cut-outs are audible but the roku unit does not show any playback happening. It will then come back but drop again.

I installed so I could stream Pandora but this does not seem to be working like planned. It does not seem to make sense to me that I can use these units to play wireless music (both from PC and from internet radio) but the pandora stream does not have enough bandwidth?

Hi markos2060,

When Jamcast grabs the Pandora audio from Windows, it's an uncompressed LPCM stream, which is probably 10X (or more) the size of the original compressed audio coming from Pandora (or that much bigger than internet radio stations). This is the nature of how audio is processed in Windows, and by default Jamcast streams the uncompressed audio to the Roku units because it is supported, and because it is a lossless operation (zero loss of audio quality).

You can, however, tell Jamcast to use less wifi bandwidth by converting the LPCM audio back to an MP3 stream. To do this, open Jamcast Server Manager and right-click either of your Roku devices and choose Properties. Then set ForceMP3CaptureStream to True and apply your changes. Do the same thing to the other Roku device as well. Try the Virtual Soundcard again and see if you have better luck.

Thanks!

You're welcome. Smile

Tell me, how sync'd up are the two devices?

Thanks!

No, unfortunately that gets a little more complicated than what these devices offer.

I was just curious because having two of the same device is about as close as you'll ever get. It's because their buffer sizes and playback behaviors are identical. Smile

Thanks!
