hi everyone. first of all i apologize for my english, i'm writing from Italy.
i'm using the trial version of jamcast to see if it could help me in making this: streaming my pc's audio over the internet to an internet radio Revo Pico Ir.
at the moment, i've read the wiki of straming the sound over the internet to foobar2000 and i've picked up some information from this wiki to try to configure the streaming to my internet radio.
the results is that i'm able to listen to my pc's audio when i'm in the same network, but not over the internet.
i've subscribed a service in dyndns just to be able to reach my ip address from outside my network. i've forwarded the port number 58642 on my router.
i've registered my Revo on the wifiradio-frontier service that allows me to add internet radio by putting the address directly.
i've added the string like the one that is mentioned on the wiki:
http://192.168.x.x
:58642/Media/audio/mpeg/CaptureStream, where the ip address is the address of my pc inside the network.
i'm not so expert in network, but i think that maybe the problem is that i must correct the string in something that sounds like:
http://"address of my pc trough dyndns":58642/Media/audio/mpeg/CaptureStream. the problem is that i haven't found the right script to make an intenet address that can localize the streaming trough jamcast on my pc, over the internet.
i'm very sorry if my bad english make this post confused..
if someone can help me i would be very glad to buy this software that seems easy and really versatile.
thank you again!!

Hi nitro781,
Thanks for stopping by. It sounds like you've done all the right things, but I'm unsure of what you mean here:

Can you explain this in a little more detail? It sounds like you have a suspicion, but I'm not sure what you mean.
If you've proven Jamcast to work on the local network, and you've altered the URL to include you DynDNS hostname (still using port 58642), and you've correctly configured port forwarding on your router, then you should be good to go.
I would definitely also try using your public IP address instead of the DynDNS address, at least as a troubleshooting measure.
Hope this helps -- you'll get it working!
Thanks!
Scott

Hello Scott and thank you very much for your reply.
First of all I wanted to clarify that when I wrote "string" I meant the url address that is needed to identify the streaming over jamcast:
http://192.168.x.x
:58642/Media/audio/mpeg/CaptureStream. sorry .. is always because of my poor English.
I used both my address DynDns and my public ip, but still does not work. My suspicion is that it serves to indicate an address that can identify the computer behind the router, becasue using the DynDns address or ip public identifies the router, not the pc behind it. this is just a guess, also due to my lack of knowledge of networks.
if it can help, i've noticed this strange thing.
i've a desktop and a notebook.i've installed jamcast on both of them to make some test. in the wifiradio-frontier service i've added the two urls:
http://192.168.x.x
:58642/Media/audio/mpeg/CaptureStream and
http://192.168.x.y
:58642/Media/audio/mpeg/CaptureStream where the two ip address are one the ip adress of my desktop inside my network and the second is the ip address of the notebook.
in this way i've created two virtual internet radios, one that plays what is streamed from my desktop and other one plays what is streamed from my notebook.
the strange thing that i've noticed is that i can listen both of the pc on both the internet radios trough my Pico Ir. i can listen the desktop streaming on the "notebook's virtual radio" and vice versa.
this is happened inside my network. outside my network nothing works..
any suggest?
i've also tried with foobar2000 but it doesn't work too..
i can't understand where is the problem.
thank you again!!

Hey nitro781,
You're welcome.
Are you using the most recent (1.1.1.66) version of Jamcast?
I might suggest simplifying the troubleshooting process by temporarily eliminating the devices from the mix. You can paste that URL into a web browser and you should get an immediate MP3 download response. If you get that, you know your connectivity is good and can then try with the device. Try the browser on the LAN first just to verify the expected behavior.
You can also check medialog.txt for useful feedback from the services. This log file is located in the Jamcast program directory. Do you get anything in there at all when issuing a request over the internet?
Let me know how you fare.
Thanks!
Scott

hi Scott.
i'm using the last version of Jamcast.
i tried your advice. inside the LAN it works perfectly and, copying and paste the Url on the browser let me listen the streaming audio trough windows media palyer.
outside the Lan it doesn't work. i've tried to use my local Ip, my Dyndns address and my public Ip.
unfortunately are still stuck with the main problem: unable to receive streaming from outside my network.

Hi nitro781,
At this point I think you should be looking at basic connectivity over the internet. Are you sure that you've got the correct port and IP addresses set up for port forwarding?
Do you have any firewalls enabled? If so, disable them and turn off, then restart the Jamcast service.
This should end up being a basic networking issue. If it works inside the network, as long as the net traffic is getting where it needs to go, it will work from outside too.
Thanks!
Scott

hi..
i'm still here! i write just because i've solved my problem.
i've bought the software and make
a lot
of attempts.
i've found that using a dns service like dyndns is not working for the pourpose of listening the audio over the internet with an internet radio.
i write so that if anyone have my same problem, they can try to solve it this way.
i've enabled in my router the "remote access" functionality.well.. it'not so secure so i reccomend to use a very strong password for the router's access.
after this, in the router's page dedicated to remote access, i've found an Ip address that is different from the public ip that my isp give me.
is an ip dedicated to reach the router from outside the lan.
i've tried to use this ip address by typing it in the address
http://x.x.x.x
:58642/Media/audio/mpeg/CaptureStream where x.x.x.x is the ip address that you can find in the router's page of the remote access after that is enabled.
and it's working!!
if you type the address
http://x.x.x.x
:58642/Media/audio/mpeg/CaptureStream in the internet browser you can listen the streaming trough windows media player. and, last but not least, you can use this address to create an internet radio with the wifi-frontier service. so you can listen the streaming of your home pc on an internet radio Revo Pico in your office!!
hope that this can help!!
(another time.. sorry for my english..)
