I just tried to stream audio to my Xbox 360 using the Virtual Soundcard feature and noticed that the music coming out of the Xbox is distorted almost beyond recognition. I typically stream music using the Media Center Extender feature on the Xbox 360, and have never noticed any distortion. I already tried forcing Jamcast to use an MP3 stream to no avail. Any ideas?

Hello to both of you,

What operating system is Jamcast installed on?

If Windows XP, the first thing you want to check is to make sure the recording input for your soundcard is indeed set to Stereo Mix / What U Hear / Wave.

The second thing to try is adjusting the volume slider for the selected recording input. If it's at 100%, try lowering it a bit to see if that helps.

The third thing to do is to find the latest drivers for your soundcard. What card are you both using? I would be interested to know if they happened to be the same card.

Again, all of the above is for Windows XP. Jamcast simply passes the audio from your soundcard across the network, so any distortion you are experiencing is coming from the card itself.

If not using XP, let me know and we'll troubleshoot in a different direction.

Let me know how you do.

Thanks!
Scott

Hmm... this distortion issue is a new one for me. Blink

Could you paste your medialog.txt to http://pastebin.org and share it here so I can take a look?

Thanks!

Got the same problem. I got mine to work by setting my Realtek hidef sound card to 2 speaker setting. At first i used 5.1 speaker setting. The sound was "robot like"

I paste my medialog.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you -- I've been out of town.

Would you guys be so kind as to check something out? Go to the Devices tab and right-click on the Xbox360 and choose Properties. Next, find "MaximumNumChannels" and make sure it is 2 (not 6). If you end up changing that setting, hit Apply and stop/start the Jamcast service. This may fix your problem -- if it does, please let me know.

In the meantime, I'm looking into the issue further and if/when I find something I will get a fix out in the highest priority.

Thanks!

Hello all,

Just wanted to update everyone on the status of this issue. It's reproducible, the cause is very apparent and I'm pretty close to a complete fix. The issue is directly related to conversion from 5.1/7.1 audio to stereo.

As a workaround, if you are not using a 5.1/7.1 speaker configuration, you can change your audio driver's speaker configuration to stereo as follows:

Right-click the volume icon in the system track and choose Playback Devices. Right-click your audio card and choose "Speaker Configuration...". Change to stereo, save the changes, and restart the Jamcast service. You should be good to go at this point.

If you do have more than 2 speakers attached to your system and would prefer not to tweak the speaker configuration, a fix for this is coming very soon.

Thanks to all for your patience. Smile

Hello all,

I posted build 0.9.7.44 today which includes a fix related to this issue when source capture audio has more than 2 channels. You can grab it here:

http://www.sdstechnologies.com/Downloads.aspx

It is my understanding from another user who tested this for me that this fix is not comprehensive -- in other words, it appear that I've missed something. However, after many many hours of Virtual Soundcard playback here under different configurations / stress / etc. I myself cannot reproduce the problem anymore with this build.

Please download 0.9.7.44 at your convenience and let me know what your experiences are. I'll continue to plug way at finding this elusive edge case that I believe still exists.

Thanks!

Hi All,

Just discovered this app today - have to say, superb.

Anyway, I had the same distorted issue, also the output volume was so low I never heard it as first (might be why some people don't think it's working), I have my amp up to about 30Db before I heard the distored sounds of Pulp coming out.

I read this post and was ensureing my XP sound settings were as they should be, and they were. The only thing I changed was the speaker settings on my laptop were set to external speakers, changed it to the laptop speakers and away it went.

Now with the previous settings my Spotify was coming out the laptop speakers so I am not really sure if this has been a fix or a fluke..? Just thought I would pass it on anyway.

Gear used is:
Toshiba Satellite Pro L10
PS3
Yahama 5.1 DTS amp

Good luck.

Stevie

Hi everyone,

Please download the 0.9.7.49 update release, it appears to have taken care of this issue. Please let me know if you find otherwise.
