I recently downloaded Jamcast (version is 0.9.7.43), which i installed on my Windows Vista laptop.

I have an orange livebox router which is connected to my pioneer sc-lx81 av amplifier.

The router is less than 1 metre from the amp.

I connect to the amp wirelessly.

I can access my laptop via the amp & play music (the only media I have on my laptop) and it all seems to work wonderfully.

However Jamcast does keep disconnecting intermittently but quite often. Sometimes it will disconnect after 15-20 minutes. Other times it will be every 2-3 minutes. Reconnecting is simply a matter of backing up through the menu & re-selecting the menu option and the track or virtual soundcard I was listening to. But it is rather annoying.

First noticed when playing spotify, but also has same problem when accessing other music media stored on the laptop.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for stopping by. Smile

The first things to check would be the medialog.txt and the Windows application event log, for errors that might indicate a problem that would cause a disconnect. You can paste your medialog.txt to http://pastebin.org and share it here if you like, and I'll take a look for you. Perhaps you can highlight some specific cases in there for me.

To get to the Windows application event log, go to Start->Run and type "eventvwr.exe". The drill down into Windows Logs and choose Application. On the right, you'll be looking for errors/warnings that coincide with the disconnects you are experiencing. If you find one, double-click and copy/paste the detail here.

If those checks don't yield anything, I might suggest we do a network capture to witness the disconnect for ourselves. If you have experience with Wireshark, or are brave enough to try it out, go ahead and do so if you like and save the capture to disk, ZIP it up, and email it to me. Otherwise, I have a simplified network capture utility that I can send you.

Have you any experience with other media server software and your Yamaha receiver? In other words, can you be sure that this is a problem limited to Jamcast?

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks!
Scott

Hi Dave,

Anything you posted to pastebin.org you've got to share the link here; I don't have any way of seeking them out otherwise. The event you pasted above looks like a harmless HTTP issue related to the UPnP services on your router -- most definitely unrelated to the issue at hand.

I think what we should do in order to short-circuit all of the guessing in between is to do a network trace that will capture the disconnect. This way we can positively determine which endpoint (Jamcast or the receiver) is actually disconnecting, and then hopefully why.

Do you have any experience with Wireshark ( http://www.wireshark.org/ ), or do you feel like you're savvy enough to give it a try? If not, I've got a simplified network capture utility that I wrote for this purpose and I can forward it along with a procedure for running it and get the capture over to me.

Let me know how you want to proceed.

I'm still also curious if you've had better success with other media server software.

Thanks!
Scott
