Just downloaded your software and tried connecting it to a Sony LCD TV - KDL46Z5500. No luck - dosent show up in the devices list. Has anyone had any success with connecting to this TV?

Thanks.

Hi!

Thanks for stopping by. A few questions:

Does the TV show up on the Devices tab in the Jamcast Server Manager?

Are you running any other UPnP software on the PC where Jamcast is installed? If so, have you tried stopping those applications and restarting Jamcast? Sometimes there are conflicts between UPnP applications running on the same PC.

Have you had success with other media server software and this TV?

I believe this TV should be supported. If you'd like, copy your upnplog.txt to http://pastebin.org and paste the share link here and I'll look for clues.

Thanks!

Scott,

Thanks for your prompt response.

>>Does the TV show up on the Devices tab in the Jamcast Server Manager?

No it dosent. On the TV, I've set the renderer as on as well.

>>Are you running any other UPnP software on the PC where Jamcast is installed? If so, have you tried stopping those applications and restarting Jamcast? Sometimes there are conflicts between UPnP applications running on the same PC.

No - not running anything. I even diasbled Kaspersky.

>>Have you had success with other media server software and this TV?

No - tried Twonky via NAS with no success.

Hi,

Thanks for the additional information. Do you know the IP address of your television?

Thanks!

Scott,

I've summarised the IPs in the log for you:
192.168.0.1 - router
192.168.0.2 - NAS

I connected my pS3 as well - can't seem to get it to you. Network config that I have:
TV + PS3 connect via >> Location 1 - Gigabit Ethernet Switch A connects to >> Location 2 Gigabit Ethernet Switch B >> this connects to PC + NAS and finally accesses >> Location 3 - Router. I can ping the TV, PS3, NAS from the computer - just can't get the devices to work!

Thanks

Hey there,

Interesting, so there's no sign of either the PS3 or the TV in the upnplog.txt. Do you agree?

UPnP device discovery occurs over UDP multicast. I wonder if it's possible that the multicast is dying at one of those switches. Are there any configurations on those switches or the router that you know of that would suppress UDP multicast packets?

Would it terribly painful for you to get the PC and the PS3 connected directly to the router in order to rule some things out? The PS3 is a known-working device so it's a better test (and easier to move!) than the TV.

Let me know your thoughts or if there's anything that comes to mind that would invalidate my suggestion as a good next step.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info. As suggested, I'll connect the PC directly to the PS3 (over the weekend) via the router and hopefully this will get it to work.

Cheers!

Good deal!

So what do you think, one of the switches is at fault?
