Plays about 0.1% of my FLAC songs, the rest I get static/binary noise or a no entry sign on.
I also get "Building current playlist" whenever I change from artist to album, takes forever!

Hi Zaptor,
Sorry to hear you're having trouble. I've had good luck with a wide variety of FLAC audio to date, as have others. It might have something to do with your FLAC encoder, since you said a small number of your tracks do work.
What device are you streaming to?
If this is indeed a FLAC encoding issues, the easiest way for me to reproduce and troubleshoot the problem would be for you to provide me with a sample FLAC file. If you have one < 10MB, you can email it to
support@sdstechnologies.com
. Alternatively, you can use a service like
http://www.yousendit.com
and upload and send the file to the same email address.
Looking forward to hearing back from you on this.
Thanks!
Scott

Sorry Zaptor, in an effort to delete my double-post I inadvertently deleted yours too.
I just tested to confirm that my FLAC test files all work perfectly with the Xbox360. These were created with a variety of encoders and include even more advanced encoding options like 96kHz sample rates and 24-bit audio.
XBMC presumably uses a different FLAC decoder than Jamcast does, so there is that important variable in play. Yes, if it is not too much trouble, getting a sample FLAC file to me would be the best way for me to assist you with this issue.
Thanks!

Good deal man, I'll be on the lookout for an email from YouSendIt and will get back to you here as soon as I have something to share with you.

Not yet, as soon as I'm back in front of my devices I'll check it out and then post here with my results.
Maybe in about 3-4 hours? Thanks for your patience.

Hi Zaptor,
Well, I had no problems with streaming track you sent me to both the Xbox 360 and the Roku Soundbridge here on my desk. I can prove this by confirming that this track was techno and had alot of heavy bass in it.
The track was transcoded to 44.1kHz, 2 channel 16-bit LPCM (audio/L16) to both devices, as expected.
Are you positive that this specific track was problematic for you?
Can you confirm that the Xbox 360 is fully identified by Jamcast? You can check this by looking at the Devices tab in the Server Manager GUI. Do you have a device named "Xbox 360" in the list, and next to it do you see a picture of the Xbox 360? It should look like this:
Also, do you have any other PCs you could try this on?
Let me know. Something strange is going on, but we'll figure it out.
Thanks!

Yes the Xbox360 is identified correctly on my server as per your picture, but I don't don't have a SoundBridge device, do I need it?
The Sash Encore part II, I sent you is one of the problematic tracks.
I remember testing the MOS Annual 2009 album (which the the track is from) and I'm getting no entry signs on all tracks.
Only one album was playable out of some 500, Tenacious D, very strange.
I have all my music on my server, my other computers are Mac's so I can't test Jamcast on another computer.
When selecting a song with a "no entry" sign the Xbox throws up a message saying "Can't play this content because it may not be supported.. Status code 19-0480070032"
BTW, all podcasts show up as "no entry" signs too.

No, it just happened to be in the screenshot I posted.

When you say "no entry" sign, are you talking about the red circle with the slash thru it? Do the no entry signs show up immediately, or only after attempted playback?

These would be podcasts stored locally in your media collection in MP3 format, is that right?
Have you used other media server software with your Xbox360 before? I'm curious to know if you have this problem with other servers as well...
Do you have experience with Wireshark, the network packet capture utility? Sending me a network capture of the Xbox360 talking to Jamcast would be extremely revealing.
This is weird stuff. We'll figure it out, though.
Thanks!

OK on the sound bridge thingy
Yes a red? circle with a slash trough.
No since I found Podcast URL's in Jamcast I thought they where being pulled from the net.
I have tried TVersity before with poor results, could not play anything and all movies/songs had the no entry sound.
Wireshark works poorly with OS X so I can't really try it out, maybe on the 2003R2 Server but since im using XBMC as my primary media center and very happy with it, i'm not prepared to go lenght's to get the 360 as a media center

Understood on going to lengths to get the Xbox360 working when you have XBMC set up. I think we can both agree that XBMC is a far more robust media player.
Have you tried connecting to Jamcast via XBMC? Any different results there?
You missed my question about when the red circle shows up -- is it visible immediately or only after attempted playback?

I use SMB to share the media to XBMC, so I haven't tried Jamcast.
Oh! The circle shows up when attempting to play the song.

Weird man... that means the 360 is rejecting the stream, but it initially believes it is capable of playing that track.
You got any firewalls running on the 2003 box? Port 58641 is where the stream is coming from, make sure that's open. This, of course, doesn't explain the static you reported but would explain the red circles.
You might like Jamcast on XBMC for the virtual audio stream and the podcast support.

Firewall was enabled on the 2003R2 Server with exclusions for Jamcast, but I also tried it with the Firewall disabled, same results.

I'm still puzzled.
How often did you get the static versus the red circle?
Well, if you get bored, install Wireshark on the 2003 box and capture a fresh boot of the Xbox360 browsing and attempting to play a track. Save the capture and if it's less than 10MB and email it to me, or if it's over 10MB let me know so we can arrange alternate transportation.

Red Circles 90%, Static noise 9%, Playable Songs 1%
Always the same songs, does not change.

Crazy. And the track you sent me was a red circle case, correct?
If you do decide to run Wireshark, browse to the same file you sent me, that way I can do a 1:1 comparison of our results. I do hope you get bored, because my curiosity is killing me on this.
