Until we get a new virtual soundcard to use with the current audio soundcard, I am streaming audio to my sound system and watching the video on my laptop. The delay is about 3 seconds between the two. Is there any way to reduce/eliminate the delay or is there a way to introduce a delay into Firefox or IE8 video?

Hi craig,
I'm not sure what you mean about the "new virtual soundcard", but in order to eliminate the perceived delay between PC and streaming device, a synchronization mechanism would have to be implemented on both ends of the stream, and I'm afraid the UPnP/DLNA protocols that Jamcast and compatible devices use doesn't define such a thing...
Regarding delaying the video, I've not heard of such a thing. Remember, the audio would still have to be in realtime...
Hope this helps.
Thanks!
Scott

Scott,
One way of achieving this would be to make a plugin for VLC or to create a simple media player (plenty of source code available everywhere) that has a synchronisation slider where you can delay the video manualy to make it match the sound.
Very very easy to code (a working proof of concept would take a few hours to code).
You see what I mean?

Hey Vincent,
I appreciate your thoughts on the matter. I've commented on this here:

there is a little way around the problem, implementeable in 3 minutes, no need to code anything....
I shall reveal it if I get a free registration for jamcast

Yes, there is a way of eliminating the delay, a bit of a hack and manual work:
open two instances of your video stream in your pc, with time delay equal to the time delay you experience... use one to send the audio (you can minimise this session)), and the second to watch the video (you should switch off the sound for this session)... you should also switch off the sound from your pc, obviously!
voila!
(and its also very easy to sync the two seessions: just start the one for the audio... and as soon as you hear the audio stream
very, very quickly
press PLAY on the second session....)
hope it helps!
could I have my free registration pleaaasseeeee?
