The reason this is a problem is that each time a new device entry is created in Jamcast it is not auto enabled for remote access so the only way to connect remotely is to be by my computer so that I can change the properties for the device to 'authorized for remote access' (Kinda defeats the whole purpose!!)

Good news is once this is enabled I am able to use the Plug Player app on my iPhone to stream Jamcast's Virtual Soundcard over 3G to my phone....very cool. Is there a way to make any new device auto enabled for remote access??

The next issue though, is that the audio skips...almost like a buffer issue. Is there a way to force a larger buffer? Or maybe that's not it at all and you have some other advice for me??

Thanks for any help on this topic.

Hi Scott,

Yup, nothing other than Jamcast Player for Android is really equipped to let Jamcast Server know it's the same device without the IP's being the same. So, what you'll want to do is disable the remote access security altogether. You can do this via Jamcast Server Manager, Network/Remote Access tab. Uncheck "Enable remote access security (recommended)"...

Regarding playback skipping, check medialog.txt and see what format the PlugPlayer app is requesting for the Virtual Soundcard -- if it's either audio/L16 (PCM) or audio/x-flac (FLAC), these are going to possibly be too big for your 3G connection to handle at all times. You can set "ForceMP3CaptureStream" to be True to ensure the stream is in MP3 format (320kbps) by default, which requires much less of the mobile network for uninterrupted streaming. The "ForceMP3CaptureStream" is a device setting that you can edit for your PlugPlayer instance via Jamcast Server Manager, Devices tab.

Hope this helps.

Thanks!
Scott

So when does the iOS App go live? 

Thanks for the info, I will try that tomorrow. I did try the forcemp3 but was getting the same issue. Saw on the sever manager you could set the buffer delay, was just wondering if it were possible to do on per device basis.

BTW - I use jamcast on a daily basis and have already recommended to several friends. It's great, looking forward to future updates!

Thanks again for the fast reply,
Scott

I couldn't wait, so I just checked for that option but all I see on the Network/Remote Access tab is

Allow Jamcast to automatically configure my router....

Then under Android Devices -

Use internet locater services...
Require Android device authoriz...
Auto-authorize devices on the local....

Something I'm missing??

Thanks,
Scott

Hey Scott,

No, you're not missing anything -- I think I must have recalled the old label for that option or something, even tho I had looked right at it only second prior. Sorry about that!

The option I was trying to refer you to was "Require Android device authorization (recommended)".

Thanks for the kudos and referrals -- we appreciate it! Regarding iOS... I couldn't say. We're just barely live with Android so far! Smile

Thanks!
