I haven't seen this issue in this forum, but if I missed it, I apologize. For some reason, when I try to play music on my DSM1, I get an error - that media type is not supported - or something like that. I have about 75,000 songs in my collection and it was crashing my SimpleCenter installation, and then my Twonkey installation, so Iw as really hoping that this would work. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help you might provide.

Clarification: the error on the DMS1 is: that media type is not supported by this device. My music files are mostly WMA's with a handful of MP3's mixed in.

Thanks!

Hey TT2,

Thanks for stopping by and sorry about your troubles. As I recall, the DMS1 isn't not totally UPnP-compliant in the sense that it doesn't properly advertise its playback capabilities to others, but I think we should be able to tweak Jamcast to get your music playing. Let's see if we can work this out together.

Open the Jamcast Server Manager and click on the Devices tab. Right-click on the OmniFi and go to properties; it might appear as "Default UPnP Device". Edit the ProtocolInfo property -- since the DMS1 natively supports WMA playback, we want to make sure that "audio/x-ms-wma" is included in the list of supported formats. If it's not there, add it.

Now you want to try playback again, but make sure that the device hasn't cached any browse results because Jamcast will now be making a native WMA audio stream available. If you want to play it safe, restart the DMS1.

Try that and let me know how you do, and we'll take it from there. Once we figure out what the deal is, I need to make the same changes on my end so that in the future Jamcast can automatically identify the DMS1 with the correct settings. If possible and not too much trouble, as you're going thru those steps if you could grab screenshots of the device screens before you make changes, that would help me be as thorough as possible on my end.

Thanks!
Scott

Wow, thanks for the quick response. I actually installed another UPNP and it's working, but I would rather use your product, so, I will uninstall and reinstall, etc. and see what we can do.

Thank you again!

Well, now at least the DMS tries to play the files, but it just hangs on each song for a moment and them moves to the next. It also sows each song twice...

Hey TT2,

I've got a DMS1 somewhere around here; let me find it and get it on my test bench and get back to you.

Regarding the duplicate tracks, this is a bug in Jamcast that only appears when browsing beneath and artist; it has been addressed and will be fixed in the next release.

Thanks!

Hi Starclouds,

Thanks for the kind words! Smile

If you check the Devices tab in Jamcast, do you see the OmniFi listed there as such, or is it known only as "Default UPnP Device"? We want to be sure that Jamcast knows what the playback capabilities are of the DMS1. You can look further at this by right-clicking on the device and choosing Properties. Observe the ProtocolInfo device property and report back what you've got there if you don't mind.

Thanks!

Hi Scott,

Could you confirm that WMA streaming works on DMS1 natively? As far as I know WMA streaming works on DMS1 with Windows Media Connect 2.0.

Also, any chance mms WMA internet radio like mms://bcr.media.hinet.net/RA000018 will work on DMS1 with Jamcast server without transcoding or via Virtual PC Stream?

TIA

Hey guys,

I dusted off the OmniFi last night and got started on going thru all functionality. I'll be posting a new build with these changes as soon as I'm done. So far so good, but I do see where the Virtual PC Audio stream was not working previously due to the lack of LPCM support on the device.

Yes, shoulih, the DMS1 is supposed to support WMA natively (just the regular WMA codec, not Pro or Lossless or any DRM content). And yes, you can play anything thru Virtual PC Audio stream including the content you specified. Smile

Thanks!

Scott,

Just to follow up and see if you get a chance to test the OmniFi DMS1 against beta 1.5 release.

One particular feature that I am looking for is to support online streaming (MMS or http) radios in native WMA format, which means NO transcoding or Virtual PC needed.

Thanks,

Shawn

Hi Shawn,

Yes, I did spend some time with the OmniFi early on in the last release cycle. I'll have to go back and look at my notes, but I know for sure that there were some changes made to Jamcast fr 0.9.5 in order to play nice with the DMS-1. Check it out and let me know how you do.

Regarding internet streaming, this is something already logged in the issue tracking system as an enhancement request. It does not have a release associated with it, but I imagine it will be assigned to a release sometime in the Beta 2 time frame (2 releases from now as it stands).

Thanks!

After installing Jamcast Beta 1.5 today, searching the forums, and applying the WMA fix in the technical support area. I am still unable to get my files to play through my DMS1 with the exception of wave files which play flawlessly. At one point I removed the "-x-ms" from the WMA command and was able to get a loud roaring sound from my stereo when attempting to play songs.. I have never been successful in getting any sound from the virtual soundcard. All files, directories, album's and tags appear correctly on the Omnifi.

I would appreciate any assistance that you might provide

Hey there, I just sent you the following in response to your email:

Hi Ron,

Have you tried to force all transcoding to MP3? You can do this by removing all of the codecs from the OmniFi ProtocolInfo setting except for audio/mpeg. The resulting ProtocolInfo setting will look like this when you’re done:

http-get:*:audio/mpeg:*

After making this change, it would be best to restart the OmniFi device to ensure clearing of the device cache.

I too have had mixed results with the DMS1. What version of the firmware do you have (I think it states this when powering up the device).

Thanks,

Scott

Version is 2.1.012. I read on one of the forums that the DMS1 likes the settings for Sony PS 3. Is it possible to set device to PS 3? I tried to force MP3 with no luck.Blink

Hi ronrn,

Sorry for the late response. I just wanted to let you know that part of my todo list for the next release is to get the DMS1 on my test bench and see where things are at. Whatever issues I can reproduce here I will take care of and include in release 0.9.6.

After you've had a chance to review, let me know how your DMS1 and Jamcast are getting along.

Thanks!

Scott,

After several months of waiting and hoping for success in getting the virtual soundcard to work with my Omnifi DMS1, I am happy to let you know that I just tried the latest release (build 0.9.7.49) and was finally able to pick-up Pandora on my device flawlessly. Your persistence and dedication to this project is admirable... Thank you! Gus
